A new toy has been launched to make children happier and rhinos safer. Paignton Zoo is raising cash for conservation with an exclusive cuddly rhino designed as part of The Great Big Rhino Project
Paignton Zoo’s Pippa Craddock explained: “After the success of the Great Gorillas Project we thought it would be nice to support this new campaign with a souvenir made especially for children. She is based on the full-size painted Stella – she is blue with a pattern of stars and constellations.”
The Great Big Rhino Project will put a free art trail of 40 life-size painted rhinos around the streets, parks and open spaces of Exeter and the English Riviera through the summer.
The cuddly Stella has been designed and produced by Keel Toys Limited, based in Kent. The 30 centimetre toy is on sale now in the Paignton Zoo shop, retailing at £14.99. A 10% donation from each toy goes to The Great Big Rhino Project.
Money raised will be channelled through Save the Rhino International. Rhinos have been around for 40 million years. There are five species: black, white, greater one-horned, Javan and Sumatran. All of these are threatened with extinction – three are Critically Endangered as defined by the IUCN (World Conservation Union). This means that they will not survive without massive and urgent action.
The Great Big Rhinos come alive on Saturday 30th July.
