The artist has always had a fascination with the sea creatures, especially ones that live in the very colourful tropical reefs. She also thought it was a good way to highlight the fact that reef habitats are under threat and need conservation too. Octopuses are great to illustrate and this one reminds her of giant sea monsters in old sailors’ nautical tales of the deep.
